Red Hot Poker

A hardy herbaceous perennial plant well adapted for the border or large beds.  Propagated by divisions of the old plants in spring.  Must have deeply cultivated and well enriched soil and ought not to be disturbed very often.  If the soil is very cold, a liberal quantity of sand should be added to it.  A great favorite in old cottage gardens.  Height 4 feet.

Plume Poppy

A hardy perennial plant with a rapidly spreading root system.  For this reason it is admirably adapted for the wild garden or for odd corners where less vigorous plants will not thrive.  It should however be well manured.  Propagated by divisions of the roots any time during autumn winter or spring or by seeds sown outdoors in may.  Height 9 feet.

Crown Imperial

A hardy perennial bulbous plant that has long been a favorite in cottage gardens.  Propagated by offsets or by seeds sown in a frame in spring.  Should have deeply dug and well manured soil and if the latter is mainly clay, each bulb should be surrounded by sand at planting time, which is in October or November.  There are several varieties.  Height 2 feet.

Soapwort

A hardy herbaceous perennial plant specially adapted for the wilder parts of gardens.  Owing to the spreading habit of the roots, it ought not be planted close to choicer and weaker growing plants in the border.  Propagated by divisions any time during autumn, winter, or spring. Will thrive in any soil.  Height 18 inches to 3 feet.

Scarlet Avens

A hardy perennial plant that is useful for cutting.  Propagated by division in the autumn or spring, or by seeds sown in a frame in spring.  Very useful for dry situations as it will thrive in poor soil, though it is better in that which has been enriched.  There are a number of varieties most of which are good,  Height 1 foot to 18 inches.
