Flowering Currant

A hardy deciduous shrub grown principally for its bright rose colored flowers. Propagated by cuttings of ripe wood planted in sandy soil in the open during the autumn. Will thrive in any good garden soil providing it is well drained. If the soil is sandy the roots should be mulched over with short manure, each summer. Height 4 ft. to 8 ft.
 

Night-Scented Stock

A half hardy annual plant that is greatly prized for its fragrant flowers. Propagated by seed sown in the open in April or May. The flowers close during the day, but open early in the evening, when their delightful fragrance permeates the atmosphere for a considerable distance. Should be sown freely around the dwelling house. Height 1 ft.

Globe Flower

A hardy perennial herbaceous plant of erect habit and useful for growing in shady places. Propagated by division of the old plant in autumn or spring. Will thrive in any good garden soil, but prefers that which is gather damp. For this reason it is often planted in boggy places. A useful flower for cutting. Height 18 inches to 2 foot.

Auricula


One of the oldest of our hardy perennial plants. Propagated by seeds sown as soon as ripe, and also by offsets or young shoots that are removed from old plants in February or March. The "Show" Auriculas are best grown in pots in quite cool frames or houses, but the Alpine section may be grown in the open garden. Thorough drainage and good rich soil are essential.

Pot Marigold


A hardy annual flower of which there are a number of varieties. Propagated by seeds sown in autumn or spring. Once a plant is allowed to seed in the garden. Self-sown seedlings will spring up in all directions. Will thrive in any garden soil, and is particularly useful for dry situations. Height 1 foot to 18 inches.
